Dreaming of a Home

I’ll admit it. I’m a housewife wanna be. I can’t wait until I can start picking out all of the little details of my home. From the light switches, to the Minka Aire fans, to the plush sectional sofas to the guest bedroom comforter. Sigh. Because in this little fantasy world I’ve created I’m of course a rich author who has a huge disposable income. ;-) For now I’m fairly happy with what we’ve done with our little rental. We’ve fixed it up nicely. I do have my eye on two couches that would really brighten up the place. Hopefully I can save up and get them before our family visits for the wedding. The sage green slipcovers we have now make me cringe.

Brothers & Sisters-Why Do I Keep Watching??

There’s just something about this show that draws me in. The Walker Family has all of these ridiculous problems and every week there is a new drama. Yet I can’t stop watching. Even when I get so fed up with the characters. Take Robert and Kitty. I can’t stand their stupid political agendas. Just focus on your adorable baby! Why do you need to be a Senator Kitty? You almost DIED. UGH. If I watched her while being hooked up to a finger pulse oximeter I’m pretty sure my blood pressure would be sky high. But then there is Sarah and Luc who I love. I was so glad she wasn’t pregnant in last night’s episode because that would have been absurd. But I love how Luc responded. “I was excited. It was the first time I’ve been excited about the possiblity that someone was pregnant with my baby.” Well put Frenchie!
Oh and Justin? Get over your dumb call to serve urges and go hang out with your hot wife! She wants to make a home with you and all you can do is talk about leaving her for war? Selfish much?? I am so annoyed but you know I will tune in next week. Maybe the Walkers just make me feel better about my own family. At least we don’t have their issues!

Scrubs-They Just Don't Make Shows Like This Anymore

While cleaning the house today I tuned into an old rerun of Scrubs. In this one Dr. Kelso finally got back into treating patients. He got this snotty 20 something girl who chose to have bariatric surgery instead of changing her diet and lifestyle. I love Scrubs and I’m sad to say that in general, they just don’t make shows like this anymore. Also, like most shows, the early episodes of Scrubs was so much better than the later seasons. I loved that the show had that perfect blend of comedy and serious situations. My favorite episode has to be Overkill, where JD has the guy with the guitar following him around while he works out his problems with his coworkers and friends. The new version of Scrubs is ok, but a far cry from my original beloved show.

The Drawbacks of Shopping Online

When I get bored I find myself “window shopping” online. I browse different sites and I find a lot of things I like. I’m always hesitant to make that purchase because even though there are a lot of pictures, there is just something to be said for being able to touch, feel, try on what you’re buying. At the same time, battling traffic and crowds isn’t that appeal either. I will buy diet pills online or other things that I don’t need to try on or try out ahead of time. If only I was rich enough to have a personal shopper. I would send them out for all my clothing shopping every time. Oh, and I’d get a driver for when I had to go shopping myself for things I actually like, such as home furniture. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Happy Easter

Today I made my first carrot cake for the Easter holiday. I’m happy to report it turned out delicious. The decorations however did not. I was going for the Easter Egg look and I really think it looks like a child decorated it. Next time I’ll just skip the sprinkles and write Happy Easter on it or something.

It was pouring down rain here in Northern CA. Crazy because aren’t easters supposed to be sunny? I will say that the rain made our hot tub experience much better. I’ve never sat in a hot tub with the rain pouring down. It was incredible! We left half the spa cover on, and at one point D swam under it just like litte kids do. Cracked me up. It was a great holiday and a nice end to the weekend.

Julie & Julia-DVD Review

I didn’t think I’d want to watch this movie, but I’m so glad that I did. It was adorable! I should have known I would identify with Julie, as a blogger myself. Bloggers everywhere need to watch this movie and laugh while Julie talks about her readers.

While I don’t think this movie was worthy of an Oscar nomination, I did think it was a cute and fun watch. Definitely a movie to rent or Netflix for all you bloggers out there. I was inspired by Julie’s story. The idea that you could become such a huge hit from your blog is I think most blogger’s dream come true. Even if I was only able to make enough from my blog to cover my eventual funeral cost, I would consider that a success.

The problem with Julie & Julia is that it makes me want to bake. I’m trying to diet and get in shape for my wedding, and after watching that movie I made my first batch of cinnamon rolls. Maybe I should start a blog on healthy dessert recipes. But what is the fun in that?

Still Life-Audio Book Review

Still Life by Joy Fielding. Here’s what the back of the book said:

Beautiful, happily married and the owner of a successful interior design business, Casey Marshall couldn’t be more content with her life. Until a car slams into her at almost fifty miles an hour, breaking nearly every bone in her body, and plunging her into a coma. Lying in her hospital bed, Casey realizes that although she is unable to see or communicate, she can hear everything. She quickly discovers that her friends aren’t necessarily the people she thought them to be – and that her accident might not have been an accident at all. As she struggles to break free from her living death, she begins to wonder if what lies ahead could be even worse.

I was interested in Still Life because the idea of comas fascinates me. We don’t really know exactly what someone in a coma goes through. She never suspects her husband because he never took out an expensive life insurance policy for her. He pretended he didn’t know about her rich father, and he even suggested she sign a prenup. Turns out he was a lying turd. This book’s dialogue was weak at best. I liked it at first, but then it just dragged on. Casey kept wondering where she was for about half of the book. I get it, she’s confused, but COME ON. And her lame sister Drew just pissed me off throughout the entire book. I only finished this book because I wanted to know what would happen at the end. I wasn’t surprised in the least, and I don’t recommend this book at all. It gets 1 star because the premise is exciting. Bleck.
