I have to admit when I saw the previews for this movie I didn’t expect much, even though I adore both Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. But watching it, I was pleasantly surprised that there was a real storyline behind it, and it wasn’t just about hooking up. The premise is Emma (Natalie) and Adam (Ashton) keep meeting each other randomly. First when they are kids at boot camp, then when they are in college, and then as adults. This last meet cute is just about the most awkward meet up ever. He wakes up naked on her couch after a night of crazy drunken debauchery. They end up having a quickie that completely lacks emotion. She later tells him she isn’t good at relationships. Meanwhile you can tell Adam is a heart on his sleeve kind of guy so you can already tell he’s going to get his heart broken.
When Adam makes Emma a period mixed cd I about died from the cuteness. All the songs were related to bleeding, lol. “To soothe your womb.” He’s just about the sweetest thing.
Emma’s character is of course frustrating to watch because she tries to be the strong, independent type. It’s scary because I’ve been told in the past that I was “brutally independent”. I saw so much of my former self in Emma. I’m just so glad I got my crap together and let love come in. Of course in the end that is what Emma does too. It was a really cute movie and I’m glad it wasn’t raunchy or vulgar like I thought it would be.
