Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
This book has been on my to read list for a really long time. I’m not sure why I hesitated, because this book was awesome! I was hooked from the first few pages, and I love that the story was told from Ethan’s perspective, rather than Lena’s. I feel that so many YA books are told from the girl’s point of view, and rarely from the boy’s.
I won’t give anything away. I will just say if you are a fan of magic, and love stories, you will love this book. I can’t wait to read the second. Nothing makes me happier than finding out a great book I love is actually a part of a series! Now I’m off to check out books 2 &3!
