A few weekends ago I went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. It’d been awhile since I’d last seen a Harry Potter movie and I was once again blown away by the talented cast. I was riveted to the screen for the entire movie and was sad when the credits rolled. The final movie is going to be so bittersweet. I guess all that will be left to do is travel to Florida and check out Harry Potter World. I think I could see myself getting an orlando car rental and trolling around through Harry Potter land sipping on butter beer and checking out the scenery. Maybe someday I’ll get to go!

Now here’s a movie I never thought I’d enjoy. These kind of movies just scream heartbreak. But there was just something about it. It was such an odd movie. There’s a man, Henry, who travels through time, never knowing when he’s going to go, and where he’s going to end up. Talk about needing life insurance quotes! My heart breaks for his wife, Clare. She’s so good about standing by, always waiting for her Henry. I think there’s so much to this story that must have been left out in the book. It really makes me need to read it.
Alba, their daughter, can time travel to, but has a little more control over when she goes. What a crazy life that must be for the wife and mother of time travelers. She’s always left in the dark, always wondering when she’ll see her husband again. Then later in the story he knows what year he’s going to die, and so does his little girl.
The little girl Alba (gosh they picked an ugly name) is so wise beyond her years. What’s interesting is that even though he dies, he’s still back at times, because of the whole time traveling thing. It’s all so darn confusing. I can’t say that I loved the ending, but it wasn’t terrible. It had that bittersweet quality to it.
A story like this really makes me appreciate my life with D. I may complain about his not being home at night because of work, but at least I know WHEN he’ll be home. I’m no stranger to being alone for some important times, but I’ve never had it that bad.
I didn’t think I’d want to watch this movie, but I’m so glad that I did. It was adorable! I should have known I would identify with Julie, as a blogger myself. Bloggers everywhere need to watch this movie and laugh while Julie talks about her readers.
While I don’t think this movie was worthy of an Oscar nomination, I did think it was a cute and fun watch. Definitely a movie to rent or Netflix for all you bloggers out there. I was inspired by Julie’s story. The idea that you could become such a huge hit from your blog is I think most blogger’s dream come true. Even if I was only able to make enough from my blog to cover my eventual funeral cost, I would consider that a success.
The problem with Julie & Julia is that it makes me want to bake. I’m trying to diet and get in shape for my wedding, and after watching that movie I made my first batch of cinnamon rolls. Maybe I should start a blog on healthy dessert recipes. But what is the fun in that?
YAYYYYYY! I love this trailer. Though I’m sorry to say, Jacob looks sexier than Edward. Why must the makeup look so goofy? In the books I’m all about team Edward, but these movies…Taylor you’re so fine. I can’t wait for this movie, it’s by far my favorite of the series.
The Oscars are not something I wait anxiously for, but they are entertaining
to watch. I spent the evening curled up with D half watching and half surfing the internet for things like a new epson receipt printer for the home office. I sat up and took notice when Taylor Lautner and Kirsten Stewart went on stage. Kirsten always looks so bored and unhappy to be on stage. Um, aren’t you an actress? Aren’t you happy to be famous? If not, stop acting!! And then when she just straight up had a huge hacking cough on stage? Terrible!!
The most noteable of the night was Sandra Bullock winning for Best Actress. She gave a beautiful and gracious speech and she looked like a classic Hollywood movie star in her dress. She gets best dressed for the night in my book. I really need to watch The Blind Side after seeing all of the clips
for the movie. It looked like Bullock really gave her best performance. But was it just me or did she seem kind of upset when they called her name? Maybe it was because she just didn’t expect it. Maybe it was because she was nervous, but her face when she first won just didn’t look very happy. I half expected a bad speech, but then she got up there and gave the best speech of the night!
The best picture going to The Hurt Locker just bugged the crap out of me. Given, the academy didn’t have much to go on this year. The nominees weren’t all that great, and I didn’t actually see any of the other movies, but The Hurt Locker was crap in my opinion. Yes it was topical, yes there were some intense moments, but overall it was just a moody movie about a shitty guy who happens to be a soldier. To me, the message of the film is that there are some men who are bad at being dads and are just addicted to adrenaline.
Now on to the most entertaining things for me, the worst dressed. Sarah
Jessica Parker’s dress. D had the best quote for it:
Hello this is Potato, you’re wearing my sack!” Hehehe. The top was fairly pretty, and her makeup was beautiful, but the rest of the dress? Ew. She has a great figure, show it off!
Miley Cyrus looked like she was stuffed into her gown. Her broad shoulders made her look like a linebacker in a dress. I do not approve.
Zoe Saldana could barely move in her dress. The top is ok, but what the heck happened to the bottom? It looks like fake
carnations, or possibly cupcake frosting. Either way, not a dress.
I watched this movie forever ago, when I was a little kid. Last night D decided to watch it on Netflix streaming, and I was cracking up. They need to make fun movies like this, where gods appear with harp music playing, and giant statues come to life and chase people down for stealing their gold. It was nice to take a break from the wedding planning last night and just watch a silly movie.
I’m amazed at how much stuff there is to do before getting married. I knew I had to reserve the venue, get the cake, photographer, stuff like that. I didn’t realize it would be a good idea to get wedding insurance quotes in addition to all the other stuff. But I will feel better if I have some insurance, since who knows what could happen, and this wedding crap is a bit cha-ching!
Back to the movie-I won’t say I was riveted, but it was fun to watch. A good ol’ classic, with Greek Mythology and men running around in skirts and no shirts. A definite B movie in my book, for a little weeknight entertainment.
I give this dvd a D+. D and I couldn’t make it through the whole movie. We ended up turning it off right after the trio almost get eaten by alien creatures with two sets of teeth. I remember loving the Land of the Lost tv show, but this was nothing like I remembered. Will Ferrel was great in Anchorman, but since then his movies have gone way downhill. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, or maybe it’s because all of his characters are exactly the same. I think I’d rather watch a movie about how to make industrial handles over watching the Land of the Lost. I was looking forward to some laughs too, but Will just isn’t that funny anymore.
And I thought The Ugly Truth was bad! I’m so disappointed in this movie. I wanted to see it because it has Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) from Grey’s Anatomy. You remember him? He was adorable on that show. He’s fairly adorable in this movie, but the content of the story was cringe worthy. Once again, no chemistry between the two lead actors. Uma Thurman is one of the most unattractive women in movies, and this was no exception. Also, Colin Firth (I love him!) was in this movie, but he played a bit of an ass. I just can’t believe Colin to ever be the one not chosen in a romantic comedy. They should have picked someone else.
The main plot of the story is that the main character, Emma (played by Uma) is a relationship expert and has her own radio show. Patrick (Jeffrey Morgan)’s fiancee Sophia calls Emma’s show, and gets relationship advice. Emma advises her to call off the wedding, thus breaking Patrick’s heart. To get back at her, Patrick turns to his tech savvy neighbor, who hacks into the city’s database and makes it so that Patrick is married to Emma. How on earth this benefits Patrick, I still don’t get.
So then of course she turns up to the courthouse to get her marriage license and can’t because she’s already married. Cue predictable meltdown here. Then she finds Patrick, and he pretends not to know what it’s all about. He also acts incredibly weird, and ends up wooing her. He acts like he just won a trip to disney world, not just met the woman who ruined his life. There should have been more conflict between the two main characters. There are no real angry remarks, he never shows that he hated her guts. It’s basically a sappy story of him falling for her (she’s an uptight bitch pretty much the entire movie, so it’s pretty unbelievable) and she falls for him. The story just isn’t good. I’m disappointed once again by the romantic comedy genre. Come on people, I know you can do better than this!
The Ugly Truth of this movie is that the two main characters had absolutely zero chemistry. I thought this was going to be a sweet lil romantic comedy, when in fact it was ranchy, crude, and downright awful! The storyline had potential, but the casting director had a monumental fail. These two actors have no spark, and so the entire romantic angle of the story didn’t come across. I’m disappointed because I love Katherine Heigl and Gerald Butler, but I couldn’t stand either of them in this flick.
After watching this, I felt like I had wasted my Saturday. I would rather watch an infomercial about a new fat burner product than watch anything like this again. Bring back the great romantic comedies like You’ve Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, Sleepless in Seattle. They just don’t make movies like that anymore. Sigh…
Last night we braved the crowds and watched New Moon on opening night. The critics had nothing but bad things to say about this movie, and since it was my least favorite book in the series, I was prepared to agree with them. I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised, and I really enjoyed the movie. The bigger budget was evident in the second film, and I think they did an amazing job on the special effects. I thought the werewolf phasing was seamless, and I liked the new way the vampires moved.
Of course there were emo parts to the film, and laughable mopey dialogue. But overall the director stayed true to the book, and anything that was added only enhanced the movie, rather than take away from the story. The only complaint I would say was the lack of explanation about the werewolves. There wasn’t any mention of their incredible healing powers. When Jacob fights Embry in the book, he gets huge cuts from his claws. But he doesn’t need to go to Blue Cross NC because they heal within minutes. I’m sure they’ll explain that part of the story better in the next film, when the werewolves are involved in a battle.
I have one confession to make as well; I’ve always been on Team Edward, but in this movie, it was TOUGH. Jacob was downright gorgeous, while Edward looked like a strung out Heroin addict.
I think it was part of the story, to show how Edward’s leaving Bella caused him so much pain, but still. He looked awful! Not at all the sexy hunk he was in the first movie. I can only hope he hits the gym before the next film, or else I might have to switch to Team Jacob. Sorry Edward!!
All in all, it was a great movie, and I’m really pleased with the casting most of all. Dakota Fanning was perfect as the deliciously evil Jane. And Alice once again stole the show with her quirky and adorable persona. I can’t wait for the next movie, my favorite of the series.
Did anyone else see the movie? What were your thoughts?
