We recently replaced our light fixtures in the upstairs hallway, guest bathroom, and family room. It may sound like a lot but we still have eight more fixtures to go. Those suckers aren’t cheaper either! I think I’m going to have to see if I can find a bunch of sears coupons to help us save.

As much work as these projects are, they are also so satisfying when we finish them. Check out what we’ve done so far!

I’m so heartbroken over the terrible attacks in Norway by the lunatic Anders Behring Breivik. What sickens me is that there has been more news and coverage over the death of Amy Winehouse, a self admitted drug addict, than this senseless attack. I suppose we should be thankful that Anders isn’t getting the public platform he wanted. The last thing we want to do is give this psycho what he wanted. But at the same time I think we need to honor those that were lost. While I do feel sorry for Winehouse’s loved ones, I think most can say it wasn’t a shock that she passed. She battled with drug addictions and spoke openly about them. Meanwhile, the youth retreat that was attacked, and the at least 93 victims that were senselessly killed, they were completely innocent. And my heart goes out to the peaceful people of Norway. May Breivik get the strongest sentence possible.

This summer is definitely the year of weddings for my group of friends. We were the first to kick it off last year and now they’re all doing it.
My good friends are getting married and she’s had a ring on her promise ring finger for quite awhile. They’ve been dating for almost 10 years!! I’m so excited for them both. It’s so strange and surreal that we are at that age where everyone is getting married. I have very few single friends that aren’t at least dating someone seriously. I love that we’re all paired off!

While I was jogging with my dog on my lunch break at work, I noticed an awful lot of police cars patrolling the area. My work is on a pretty quiet street near an apartment complex, and I rarely if ever see police drive by. In that one hour, I saw THREE. I thought something must be up, and then I checked the news when I got home, and it turns out there was a crazy woman on the loose who had been last seen just a few streets from my office! They didn’t say what was wrong with her, just that she was distraught and suffering from mental issues. I wonder if she was all hyped up on hgh supplements or if she was on drugs. I’m so relieved that I didn’t come across her when I was with my dog. Crazy stuff!!

I remember when the social networking site wasn’t as popular as Myspace. I was first drawn to Facebook because of the ability to create photo albums instead of just 8 or so pictures like Myspace.
Then one day, Facebook started the status update. It used to be you’d list what you were literally doing. “Bdubs is at work” or “Bdubs is at the library”. Now the typical Facebook status is what people are thinking at any given moment. Sometimes updates are downright personal and it comes as a shock that they are on Facebook.

I have a friend who updated her status throughout her entire labor, having her husband take over at the end. I felt that was a bit too much information. Is this a glimpse of the future as we know it? Will we no longer receive telephone calls with great news such as engagements, pregnancies or new jobs? Instead we will just scroll through our Facebook pages and read each other’s updates. At times I can see this as being a great way of getting information out to all of your friends and loved ones at once, but are we also losing personal connections?

Going back to the friend who went through labor on Facebook, it was a little disappointing when we finally talked in person. I felt like I’d read the last page of a good book and spoiled the ending. I already knew the whole story and I didn’t get to hear about it in person. At the same time, through those updates I did feel like I was there in the hospital room with her, which is a pretty exciting feeling. So I think personal preference plays a big role here. If you want all of your friends to know something exciting in your life, status updates are the perfect place to share that information.

Now let’s talk about family members who may read your updates. You may forget they are your Facebook friends when you go to update your status. Let’s say you had a really rough day and you write a really nasty status update complaining about your job and you include a swear word. Maybe that’s not something you want your Mother or Grandmother to read. The good news is there are privacy settings for Facebook updates, that allow users to guard who can and cannot see their status updates. You can create groups and lump all of your family into one, your coworkers into another and so on. This handy feature allows you to vent away about work without the fear that your coworker will blab it to your boss. This also protects poor Aunt Mildred from reading your foul language.

My advice to all Facebook users out there is to really think before you post your status updates. Do share your thoughts and use Facebook as the social networking tool that it is. Just be sure you’re also aware of who is reading those updates and update your privacy settings accordingly. Also, maybe for that really big piece of exciting news, the kind that come along just once or a few times in a lifetime, maybe those you save for a phone call or in person chat. And to all of my Facebook friends who talk about their bowel movements on their status updates: yes, it really is too much information.

They definitely aren’t worth battling the huge swarms of angry shopper nutbags. I think I’d rather sit in a chair and remove blackheads on my nose than be subjected to that torture. I did do a little online shopping from the comfort of my couch. Now that’s the only way to do any holiday shopping that you aren’t making yourself.

But to my surprise my work has had me working out in the field more closer to my new home. It’s actually been a lot of fun and I’m really enjoying my work. I think I could be happy and want to stay long term so long as I start working in the field/home office almost exclusively. I may even invest in a home office setup if this is going to be a more permanent thing. It’s pretty exciting!
