We’ve been trying to figure out if we’ll take a mini-moon after the wedding but we happen to live in a really expensive area. I can’t imagine how a hotel can justify $300 a night for a room. I guess the bathroom accessories are dipped in gold? I think since D and I are such no frills no fuss people we’ll just go camping instead. I think it’ll be pretty romantic, sleeping out under the stars, roasting marshmellows and just being together. Can’t think of a better way to celebrate our wedding.

While we were on vacation D and I were talking about what wedding favors we’re going to give everyone. I went ahead and bought some cheap favor boxes and I plan on dressing them up with a bit of ribbon, and then putting something inside them. I thought it’d be kind of fun to get custom usb drives since I’m a computer techie. Wouldn’t that be funny? But I think we may just go with hersey’s kisses or some other sweets, like a ghiradelli chocolate since we’re in the SF bay area. Our boxes are pretty small, otherwise it’d be fun to do both!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a little extra money. Things are tight what with the summer trips we’ve been taking, and plus saving for the wedding. I’ve been trying to figure out what I can do that will make extra cash while still keeping my day job. I don’t want to take a second job at the mall, at one of those obnoxious kiosks that sells cell phone cases.
Maybe I can just spend my time online filling out surveys and entering to win contests. Hey somebody has to win right?
Yesterday D’s dad asked us for help as they prepped their house for painting. We thought we were just going to move some furniture around. Instead, he busted out a saw and had us help him saw a wooden valence in half. I didn’t realize I’d need safety glasses to help move things. It was crazy! I’m excited for their house to be painted though. D’s mom picked out these really pretty colors for each room. They’re redoing the lighting and getting a new tv too. I can’t wait until we’re able to buy a house and fix it up. Someday…
I’m trying to decide if I want to give out wedding favors or not at our wedding. The problem is I’m having a hard time finding a decent favor to give. There are some horrible ideas out there, like e-cigarettes or personalized cheesy heart shaped frames. I’d love to give out a personalized deck of cards but I worry that those are kind of cheesy. Plus they aren’t exactly cheap. The other ideas are something edible, like hot cider or hot cocoa packets, or maybe honey. I wonder if people would even miss the favors if they weren’t there.
Every weekend this month has been jam packed with weddings. I’ve got something happening every weekend for the wedding, or holidays like Mother’s Day, graduations to go to, dress alterations, tux renting, and birthday parties to attend. Whew. Then there is the never ending to do list for the wedding, which doesn’t even include all the things we need to do as a newly married couple. Open up a joint checking account (if we decide to do that), get a couples auto insurance quote to see if we can get a better price, and then we need to figure out if we want to stay here in California after the wedding or if we’re going to move. So many things to think about! I’m so ready for a vacation.
I’ll admit it. I’m a housewife wanna be. I can’t wait until I can start picking out all of the little details of my home. From the light switches, to the Minka Aire fans, to the plush sectional sofas to the guest bedroom comforter. Sigh. Because in this little fantasy world I’ve created I’m of course a rich author who has a huge disposable income.
For now I’m fairly happy with what we’ve done with our little rental. We’ve fixed it up nicely. I do have my eye on two couches that would really brighten up the place. Hopefully I can save up and get them before our family visits for the wedding. The sage green slipcovers we have now make me cringe.
When I get bored I find myself “window shopping” online. I browse different sites and I find a lot of things I like. I’m always hesitant to make that purchase because even though there are a lot of pictures, there is just something to be said for being able to touch, feel, try on what you’re buying. At the same time, battling traffic and crowds isn’t that appeal either. I will buy diet pills online or other things that I don’t need to try on or try out ahead of time. If only I was rich enough to have a personal shopper. I would send them out for all my clothing shopping every time. Oh, and I’d get a driver for when I had to go shopping myself for things I actually like, such as home furniture. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Today I made my first carrot cake for the Easter holiday. I’m happy to report it turned out delicious. The decorations however did not. I was going for the Easter Egg look and I really think it looks like a child decorated it. Next time I’ll just skip the sprinkles and write Happy Easter on it or something.
It was pouring down rain here in Northern CA. Crazy because aren’t easters supposed to be sunny? I will say that the rain made our hot tub experience much better. I’ve never sat in a hot tub with the rain pouring down. It was incredible! We left half the spa cover on, and at one point D swam under it just like litte kids do. Cracked me up. It was a great holiday and a nice end to the weekend.
I may have mentioned it before, but I’m not very happy with my current career. I sort of fell into IT after college, and I’ve been wondering what else is out there for me. I spend my days sitting in front of a computer waiting for the phone to ring. It’s a very boring job.
With all of this free time on my hands, I’ve thought about getting an online degree. I’ve been thinking a lot about going back to school for teaching. I think I would be a great elementary school teacher. I love kids, and I love the idea of teaching multiple subjects. I found this website that offers an online teaching degree which would be perfect for me. I would be able to use all the free time I have during the day. I can’t afford to go back to school full time as a student so this is a great alternative. Also, WGU’s tuition is very reasonable, unlike the local University I contemplated going to. With the convenience of being online, I wouldn’t have to quit my job, so I could save up while I went to school. I’m really thinking about applying to WGU.
