Finally Moved In

Well we finally moved in. I’m so bone tired. I loaded up my car, the movers came and loaded their giant truck, and 4 hours later we were moved in. Now if only the movers could have unpacked all the boxes and helped me clean. ;-)

One thing I noticed when I was packing is our long forgotten guitars. We bought them on a whim and we decided to try to teach ourselves acoustic guitar songs years ago. Maybe once we get settled I will pull the guitars out and actually try to learn. I’m just so excited to know that we will not be moving again for a very, very long time. This tree can finally put down some roots.

Rental Shopping

It’s not quite as exciting as house hunting. What’s frustrating for me is I can always see the potential in a rental home or apartment, but since I’m renting I would never put my own money into. Still it frustrates me when I go into an apartment home and the home ventilation is terrible and there are super old appliances or really ugly paint and carpet. If they’d just give it a new paint job, put in some purgo floors, they could drastically change the home for the better. I hope we find something soon. We’ve got 20 days to be in our new home, and I’m starting to get nervous. I know we can’t be too picky but if we’re going to be dropping almost an entire paycheck on rent, I want it to be nice. That’s not too much to ask is it?

Finally Done Moving

We’re all moved into the new place! It’s so nice to be done with all that work. And we’ve got our internet back (that was a rough couple of days, let me tell you!) so I’m able to blog away to my heart’s content. We love the new place so much. It’s like night and day from our old neighborhood. It’s just so quiet where we are now. We’re in the college town I used to live in when I was in school, and I had forgotten how much I loved it there. There’s a smaller popular so the traffic is not nearly as bad. Some of our favorite restaurants are here, and it’s 15 minutes closer to work, which is so nice. Though when I have a great book on cd I long for the longer drive, haha.
The new place has lots of storage-so much in fact that D gets to hang up his clothes. At the old one bedroom I took the closet, he got the floor. The appliances are nice too, the bathroom looks as nice as one of those Hansgrohe faucets and we finally have a gas range for cooking! I have yet to make a nice meal though, because we’ve been so busy unpacking. Soon though. I might even get around to posting a few pics of the new place too!

Thinking of Moving…Again

D and I are talking about moving again. I feel like I bounce houses so fast the postal service must seriously hate me. I would really love to be settled in a place I can call home, and stay there for longer than a year. I know that’s probably not going to happen until D settles down into a career, but you can’t blame me for being anxious!

We’ve quickly outgrown our 1 bedroom apartment. We both need another room we can go to, be it for studying, having guests over, or just a little alone time. We also really need a yard for the pup. We just went on vacation and stayed in a rental house, and I can’t tell you how nice it was to just open the back door for our pup when he needed to tinkle instead of tromping downstairs, putting on the leash, and so forth.

Still, our place isn’t that bad. We’ve got a garage, washer and dryer in the bathroom, and we only share a wall with one neighbor. So part of me thinks we should just stick it out and keep saving our money. Plus D’s parents have hinted that they want to go to Europe again for a few months, and suggested that we live in their house and house sit. Now that would be incredible! Would it be rude to ask them to go now? ;-)

SPT-Self Portraits While Trying New Things

This week’s SPT is a challenge-I resolve to take more self portraits while trying new things. Well, I guess trying new things goes along with our past weekend. We were so productive, and we got lots of work and moving things done. After that though, we were at a loss for what to do. We just kept looking at each other and saying, “What do you wanna do? I dunno, what do you want to do?” Very reminiscent of the vultures in The Jungle Book. We finally decided that we needed to get out of the house and take a break from all the packing we’d been doing. We drove out to the coast so we could go star gazing, something we’ve never done together.

This is a picture of us standing on a pitch black cliff looking at the stars. You can’t tell, but the sky was full of stars, it was beautiful. There was this really eerie warm wind, and as you can tell it did a good job of ruining this picture. We ran back to the car right after this because the pitch black and no moonlight was pretty spooky!

Our Overproductive Day

Today the boy and I stretched the Outer Banks of our energy, getting more done in a day than most people do in a weekend. We moved over a lot of boxes to our new place, getting a head start on moving. We made two trips filling both our cars, so we got a lot of the little stuff moved over.
After we moved boxes, we decided to wash our cars since it was a beautiful day. Seriously not sure what’s up with the weather but it felt more like a warm Spring day than mid January. I normally prefer the cold weather, but with the move coming up I’m grateful for the sunny days.
After we washed the cars we waxed them, and even put a coat of armor all on the inside of both. We also managed to find time to clean the apartment, and go for a walk downtown with the puppy. Oh, and this morning before we did all this, I beat the boy at a game of Monopoly. I’m not sure how we squeezed all of that into one day, but we did! I’m looking forward to the holiday tomorrow and doing a lot less. We’ll probably do a little bit of packing, but I think I’d like to just veg out and relax. We’ve got plenty of hard work ahead of us this next weekend, and I think we’d better take advantage of any resting time we’ve got.

New Lease, New Life

We signed the lease today! We’re that much closer to getting out of this dump! It’s so tempting to move in now. We’ve got the keys, but we’re not technically supposed to move in until next week. It’s going to be so great not having to drive into this complex every day. We’ve got this joke that is supposed to be one of those advanced security systems, when really it’s just a gate around the entire community. It doesn’t even work properly-the main gate is always open, but the side gate is always closed and we have to drive all the way around the complex to get to our apartment. It’s all supposed to make us feel so “secure” when really it’s just inconvenient.

Before we signed the lease, we had the boy’s fire academy graduation. YAY! I’m so proud of him! It’s been a big day for us-new apartment, new career for him. We’re moving on up! :-)

A Healthy Dose of OCD

Today the boy and I started the packing up to move process. He viewed it as work, while I on the other hand thought it was a lot of fun. We went through all of his clothes and mine, making donation piles. After that, I took pictures of a few things I want to sell on craigslist. We got rid of a lot of stuff, and now all that’s left to do is pack up what we do want. Thank god my bf isn’t the kind to pack around things like old basketball trophies or playing cards, so we don’t have to lug those around. We are both sort of minimalists, so we don’t have a lot of junk, but we did have some classically hideous old clothes. :-) Still, moving isn’t going to be a picnic, and while I can’t wait to move to our new place, I’m not looking forward to the back breaking work of moving. Maybe we can bribe some friends with beer and pizza if they help us!
