Neil Patrick Harris and the Emmys

I love Neil Patrick Harris (NPH!) first of all. I love that he hosted The Emmys and I hope he gets to do it again next year. Now, I will confess, I didn’t even watch this year’s Emmys, I just watched clips online after the fact. I rarely know when things air, and I rely on the internet to catch all the shows that I miss. So I thought it was pretty ironic that a lot of talk on this year’s Emmys was concerning “Broadcast Television” and how it’s becoming a thing of the past because of streaming video online.
On the one hand I can see why those in the television business are concerned about it. They rely on advertising, and advertisers pay big bucks for their commercials, and here a lot of viewers just tune into the network’s webpage and opt for the limited commercial edition.
Still, were it not for TIVO, digital recorders, or the internet, many of us wouldn’t watch our favorite shows.

Let’s face it, life is just too busy to watch tv during regularly scheduled time slots. Now, I still love to catch my favorite shows right when they air, but it doesn’t always happen. That or D and I don’t agree on a tv show, and I won’t force him to suffer through Grey’s Anatomy if he hates it (Plus when I do watch it with him there, he just makes fun of it, and I miss all the good parts!!) And how many of us would love to just fast forward through those awkward colon cleanse reviews commercials given the choice? Of course we would! So we are in the age of techology, that gives us options instead of becoming a slave to the television programming schedule.

So what do you think? Do you think broadcast tv is becoming phased out for streaming videos online? Do you catch up on your favorite shows, record them, or do you watch them as they air?

Here’s a little clip of NPH’s opening act. Isn’t he adorable?

Routan Baby Contest!

Some of you guys might have gotten a kick out of my Routan Baby that I created a few posts back. Now for the first time on my blog, I’m pleased to offer a contest where you can win a few prizes from Volkswagen, as part of their Routan Campaign. If you haven’t seen the commercials, here’s one of my favorites.

So for the good stuff, the contest: Just comment on this post with what you look for in a new minivan or car and you could win a VW prize pack!

Here is what is inside the prize pack:

One (1) Book: “Welcome to Your World, Baby”, authored by Brooke Shields

Three (3) Volkswagen T shirts

One (1) Volkswagen branded tin

One (1) box of Kleenex tissues (new Antiviral kind)

One (1) package of Wet Wipes from Huggies (not pictured)

The contest will end at the end of this month. Good luck and remember, “have a baby for love, not for German engineering.”

How I Met Your Mother-Happily Ever After

I love love love How I Met Your Mother, and last night’s episode was no exception.

*SPOILER ALERT*

The show starts with Ted reflecting on being left at the alter by Stella-one of the sadder moments in HIMYM history. I loved it because he talks about moving on and how he’s doing fine, and all his friends look at him and go, “um, Ted, the wedding was yesterday!” I love his denial because it is so something I would do. I’ve had my share of heartbreaks, and my solution is to just move on and pretend it doesn’t bother me.

Then Ted busts out the line, “Why confront something when you can avoid it?”So classic! So true! But the episode had such a good moral, and it’s another reason I love the show so much. They touch on key topics that really matter in life, but they crack you up along the way. Barney always makes the show with his super creeper stints too.

So the whole episode is about people that each friend wants to avoid, and how they would freak out if they ran into that person from their past. For Ted, it was Stella, who actually shows up at the restaurant where they all are. The gang decides to hide under the table, where they tell the stories of who they would avoid. At one point Barney gets up and hides under the other table, where there are pretty girls in skirts-the little creepster! Of course his story is about a girl he dates in prison for conjugal visits, ha.

At the end of the episode, Ted is about to confront Stella and tell her dumping him at the alter, and about leaving him for her ex, when he sees the family outside their apartment. He sees how happy they are, and how Stella made the right choice by leaving him. Ted realized it was the perfect end to a love story, but the story just wasn’t his. It was a great episode, but of course it leaves us wondering, who is Ted going to end up with?! It is the stuff that keeps us watching, and I can’t wait for next week’s episode.
